Hub City cattle auction report
The Hub City Livestock cattle auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 1,422 head selling on Aug. 29, compared to 2,213 head a week ago, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
No sale was reported a year ago. Compared to a week ago, the best comparison was on steers weighing 900 to 950 pounds that were selling $4 to $5 higher. There was good to very good demand for the offering of a few strings, loads and packages, most of these coming off grass in light to moderate flesh. The quality was average on most of the offering. Many of the sale’s packages were tested open heifers. It was an active market with many buyers attending and competing for cattle as supplies remain fairly tight. Steers made up 42% of the feeder supply, heifers were 58% and 99% weighed over 600 pounds. The next feeder cattle sale is Sept. 5.
