A farmer can re-purpose a late model corn head for about a third to half the cost of a new on-purpose row head unit with the Alternate Rotary Rowcrop Option from Shield Ag, Hutchinson, Kansas. The ARRO allows for more efficient harvesting of sorghum, millet, milo, and sunflowers, while only taking about three hours labor per row to install. It gives the farmer the advantage of the high reliability of modern corn heads while reducing cost and maintenance downtime. A converted head works well in down or lodged milo without an excessive reduction in harvesting speed. Cutting and stubble height can be adjusted to leave 15 inches or more of stalk in the field to control wind and water erosion. Standard corn heads can be converted to “cut and harvest” row crops, including sorghum and sunflowers, without irreversible permanent modifications.
