Missouri Cattlemen’s Association plans Show-Me Beef Tour in August

The Missouri Cattlemen’s Association and Missouri Junior Cattlemen’s Association are hosting the Show-Me Beef Tour August 24 to 26 for new and existing MJCA members ages 9 to 21. This year, the tour will showcase Southeast Missouri agriculture. MCA Manager of Membership Maria Washburn said the goal of the tour is to provide young people interested in agriculture with a diverse exposure to varying career paths within the industry.

“The hope is that young people will be inspired to give back to Missouri agriculture when they enter into the profession in the future,” said Washburn.

The tour will include multiple educational stops allowing students to see first-hand the everyday practices of agricultural operations. This year, they will be touring a seedstock operation; a free range hog operation; a cattle feedlot; and more. One unique stop will be to Southeast Missouri State University to get a look at the school’s agricultural programs.

Washburn noted that exposing young people to several types of operations gives them a greater understanding of how different sectors of the industry affect the success of beef production.
