The Kansas Beef Council is hosting advanced beef cattle care and health training sessions across the state during January and February. These checkoff-funded workshops will provide beef producers up-to-date standards and technologies to improve animal welfare and food safety. Kansas State University veterinarian Dan Thomson and K-State Extension Beef Veterinarian A.J. Tarpoff will lead the training.
Dates and locations for the sessions include: Feb. 17—Kansas Cattle Drive, Buhler; Feb. 19—LaCrosse Livestock Market; and Feb. 26—Plainville Livestock Commission.
Producers and veterinarians will receive Beef Quality Assurance training relevant to the cow-calf, stocker and feedlot segments. The curriculum will include animal husbandry best management practices, downed animal care and humane euthanasia training. In addition, stockmanship principles and low-stress cattle-handling techniques will be presented. All producers and veterinarians who attend will earn BQA certification valid for three years.
Each workshop is free of charge and includes a complimentary meal. Pre-registration one week or more prior to the event is requested by contacting KBC at 785-273-5225 or by emailing [email protected]. Walk-in attendees are welcome, but are not guaranteed a meal.
