Grund Beef Genetics, based in Sharon Springs, Kansas, is offering two scholarships this spring in honor of Layal Grund.
Grund Beef Genetics started as a commercial cow-calf operation more than 60 years ago. These scholarships honor the lifelong appreciation and support Layal had for his community and the region. Layal was a supporter of the Gelbvieh breed. He also was a tremendous supporter of 4-H programs and loved to see young people sharing their dedication for community activities.
Layal passed away in 2017.
The first $500 scholarship is for Wallace County High School or Weskan High School seniors or graduates who are already attending college. Applicants also must have been in 4-H at least five years.
Another $500 scholarship is for western Kansas and eastern Colorado students.
The application deadline is April 1.
