Time for us all to stay positive

"Just A Scoopful" - Jerry Nine

By the time this gets to print we will surely know who our next president and other leaders are. I feel there is so much at stake with this election. Regardless of the outcome we still live in the greatest land of all and I hope not only for myself, but the future generations that it stays that way.

I am so tired of messages on my phone and radio ads that make me turn the radio off. Regardless of the outcome if you are a believer you still realize God is in control. I know I catch myself looking at my phone constantly to see what the weatherman says. We have a chance for rain and God probably says keep in mind “I am still in control.”

This past week a big area received much needed moisture with our area mostly 1 1/2 to 2 inches. But central Oklahoma showed 5 to 7 inches, with one man saying he received 12 inches that came in three rains. He said he hadn’t checked, but he was sure he didn’t have any water gaps left as all were washed out.

Most sale barns, for the week are very low numbers, but these rains should keep a lot of the calves in our area now that there will be some wheat pasture. If you are going to survive in the cattle business or farming you have to get rain. Yes, if you know me by now, that four-letter word snow is a dirty word.

Some of these prices you see at the sale barn for the best quality of calves and the most sought-after weight shows there are buyers more aggressive than I am. A friend sold some steers right off the cow weighing 552 pounds that brought $315 per hundredweight, and the bigger brothers weighing 679 pounds brought $100 less per head. I know from owning a sale barn for 23 years that is hard to explain to a customer. But I had to say I can’t tell them what to give on certain classes. The big ones were too big for what most wanted for wheat pasture.

At the breakfast table of knowledge this morning a man said if his body was a car he would trade it in for a newer model. Because every time he coughs or sneezes his radiator leaks and his exhaust backfires. Wow these old guys are too old for me. I need to find another table.
