Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction report
The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 5,272 head selling on Jan. 5, compared to 7,295 head selling at the last reported sale and 7,431 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
This sale has not had a reported auction due to the holiday break, therefore no comparison can be made. Good to very good demand for offerings with many long strings, load lots and packages of steers and heifers offered. Most of the cattle have been long time weaned and were home raised. Flesh condition of the cattle ranged from moderate to moderate plus and reflects in the prices received for the cattle. Active to fairly active market for the fully pre-conditioned calves offered. Feeder cattle consisted of 70% steers, 29% heifers, 1% cutting bulls, with 87% over 600 pounds.
