Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction, Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 1,356 head Jan. 4, compared to 1,773 head two weeks ago and 3,199 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to two weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers sold $4 to $8 higher. Trade was fairly active on good demand after the holiday break. The Panhandle remains extremely dry and in much need of moisture for local wheat pastures. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to $2 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 4%, less than 1% replacements, and 95% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 52% steers and bulls, 48% heifers, nearly 84% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 333 lbs., 170.00; few 423 lbs., 174.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 159.00 to 161.00; lot 638 lb. calves 148.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 150.00 to 154.00, calves 147.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 148.00 to 153.75, calves 141.00; few 829 lbs., 143.50; lot 924 lbs., 135.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 458 lbs., 155.50; few 598 lbs., 143.00; few 691 lbs., 151.00, lot 677 lbs., full 141.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 145.00 to 147.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 143.50 to 146.50. Holstein steers, Large frame 3, few 605 lbs., 70.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 550 to 600 lbs., 131.00 to 136.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 450 to 500 lbs., 139.50 to 147.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 138.00 to 146.25; 600 to 700 lbs., 140.50 to 148.00, calves 130.00 to 139.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 139.00 to 142.00; lot 843 lbs., 123.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 544 lbs., 135.50; few 693 lbs., fleshy 115.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 533 lbs., 116.00; few 738 lbs., 125.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1600 lbs., 50.00 to 51.00; high dressing, 55.00; low dressing, 45.00 to 49.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1350 lbs., 51.00 to 54.50; high dressing, 55.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 50.75. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1200 lbs., 50.00 to 52.50; high dressing, 60.00; low dressing, 45.00 to 50.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young to middle aged, 1150 to 1275 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred 1050.00 to 1125.00 per head.
