Philip Livestock Auction report
The Philip Livestock Auction, Philip, South Dakota, reported receipts of 4,819 head selling on Jan. 9, compared to 5,567 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
There has not been any recent sales reported due to the holidays, therefore no market comparison may be made. There was very good demand for several long strings and many load lots and packages that sold on an active market. Much of the offering carried light to moderate flesh with some of the offering carrying moderate plus flesh. The offering included 85% feeder cattle, the balance was slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder cattle supply was 61% steers, 39% heifers and 73% over 600 pounds.
