Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary
The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,211 head selling on Jan. 8, compared to 929 head selling Dec. 18, 2017, and 807 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
When compared to last sale of 2017, there were not enough comparable sales of steers or heifers for a market trend, however, a slightly lower undertone was noted. Trade activity was fairly active on moderate to good demand. The trading area remains very dry and in much need of moisture for winter wheat pastures. Slaughter cows and bulls made up less than 1% replacements and 95% feeders. Feeder supply consisted of 45% steers and bulls, 55% heifers, approximately 55% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
