Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 899 head selling on Jan. 22, compared to 1,015 head a week ago and 721 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers were selling $4 to $8 higher after the CME board and fat cattle prices rebounded at the end of the week. Trade was active on very good demand. The supply included several loads of attractive quality steers and heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady on a very light test. Slaughter cows and bulls made up less than 1%, less than 1% replacements and 99% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 32% steers and bulls, 68% heifers. Approximately 77% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 275 lbs., 200.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 174.00 to 198.00; few 481 lbs., 164.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 175.00 to 185.00; few 553 lbs., 149.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 155.00 to 160.00, calves 140.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 151.00 to 153.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, lot 622 lbs., 156.50. Holstein steers, large frame 3, lot 450 lbs., 55.00; lot 675 lbs., 58.50.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 545 lbs., 127.00.
