Joplin Regional cattle sales report
The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, Missouri, reported receipts of 8,927 head selling on Jan. 22, compared to 2,322 head a week ago and 7,257 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a light test a week ago, steers under 700 pounds and heifers under 600 pounds were selling $3 to $7 higher, steers over 700 pounds were selling unevenly steady to $5 higher with the most increase on 700 weights, heifers over 600 pounds were selling unevenly steady to $2 higher. Demand was good, supply heavy. The feeder cattle supply included 55% steers, 0% dairy steers, 42% heifers and 3% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 54%.
