Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 675 head selling on Feb. 5, compared to 817 head a week ago and 509 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers were selling mostly steady on limited comparable sales. Trade activity was moderate on moderate to good demand. The CME livestock board struggled after coming off of Jan. 29’s highs. Slaughter cows and bulls made up less than 1%, 4% replacements and 96% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 69% steers and bulls and 31% heifers. Nearly 73% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 335 lbs., 185.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 170.50 to 174.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 162.00 to 166.50; few 660 lbs., 157.50; lot 764 lbs., 143.50, few 765 lb. calves 130.50; load 840 lbs., 140.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, half load 692 lbs., 151.00; lot 765 lbs., 144.50. Holstein steers, large frame 3, lot 543 lbs., 50.00; lot 651 lbs., 55.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 497 lbs., 148.50; few 681 lbs., 125.00; few 877 lbs., 119.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 573 lbs., 123.00; few 673 lbs., 116.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 461 lbs., 159.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 142.00 to 148.00; few 610 lbs., 138.00; few 685 lbs., full 125.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 340 lbs., 152.00; few 568 lbs., 126.00; half load 649 lbs., 135.00; lot 751 lbs., 127.75.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, individual 2020 lbs., 77.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to short and solid mouth, 1200 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred, 735.00 to 925.00 per head.
