Russell feeder cattle auction report
The Russell feeder cattle auction, Russell, Iowa, reported receipts of 3,401 head selling on April 2, compared to 3,193 head a week ago and 6,129 head last year, according to the USDA-Iowa Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Des Moines, Iowa.
Compared to the March 19 sale, feeder steers under 550 pounds were selling mostly $5 to $6 lower, 500 to 700 pounds were selling mostly $15 to $20 lower, over 700 pounds were selling mostly $6 to $10 lower and feeder heifers were selling mostly $3 to $10 lower. Trade was active and demand moderate. Receipts included 72% feeder cattle over 600 pounds, 40% of the feeders were steers and 60% were heifers.
