Russell feeder cattle auction report
The Russell feeder cattle auction, Russell, Iowa, reported receipts of 4,988 head selling on April 30, compared to 3,864 head selling at the April 16 sale and 3,291 head last year, according to the USDA-Iowa Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Des Moines, Iowa.
Compared to April 16 sale, feeder steers under 500 pounds were selling mostly $2 to $5 higher, 500 to 650 pounds were selling mostly $6 to $9 lower, 650 to 800 pounds were trading mostly $1 to $2 higher, over 800 pounds were selling mostly $2 to $4 lower and feeder heifers were selling mostly steady to $1 to $2 lower. Trade was active and demand good. Receipts this week included 55% feeder cattle over 600 pounds, 63% of the feeders were steers and 37% were heifers.
