Sugarcane aphids slowly making their way north

According to the Kansas State University’s myFields Sugarcane Aphid Tracker, sugarcane aphids have been reported in Kansas.

There were two instances of the pest reported in Cowley County, Kansas. The most recent was recorded July 18. Another was observed July 10. According to the website https://www.eddmaps.org/county.cfm?sub=8170&id=us_KS_20035, the last reported cases of SCA in Cowley County, Kansas, was in 2016. Cowley County is located on the Kansas/Oklahoma state line in south-central Kansas. 

The same website reported four more instances of SCA in single fields in Oklahoma. Grant, Garfield, Noble and Payne counties each had one reported case. Dates of those reports ranged from June 27 to July 10.

Additionally, eight other Texas Panhandle counties have reports of single cases of SCA, with reported dates ranging from July 9 to 20. Counties in Texas include Moore, Potter, Carson, Gray, Castro, Hale, Lamb and Lubbock.

There have been 2018 Section 18 approvals for the pesticide Transform WG to control SCA in Arkansas, Kansas, Texas, Mississippi, Lousiana, Alabama, Colorado, Missouri and North Carolina. Always read and follow label instructions when applying pesticides to control SCA.
