Dalhart livestock auction report
The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,573 head selling on Sept. 27, compared to 2,159 head a week ago and 1,137 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling $1 to $3 higher. Feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were selling firm to $3 higher. The supply included several offerings of pre-conditioned 350- to 500-pound calves. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady. Quality was mostly attractive. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 13%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 87%. The feeder supply included 64% steers and 36% heifers. Nearly 48% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
