Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,191 head selling on Oct. 4, compared to 2,573 head a week ago and 1,882 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves under 600 pounds were selling steady to $1 lower. Heifer calves were selling $1 to $3 lower. Feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were selling $1 to $3 lower on a light test. Offerings were mostly fleshy calves right off their mothers with one to two pre to weaning shots. Slaughter cows were selling $2 to $4 lower. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. Quality was mostly attractive. Trade was fairly active. Demand fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 750-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 15%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 85%. The feeder supply included 57% steers and 43% heifers, nearly 26% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
