Fun a requirement for living in the High Plains

“Just A Scoopful” – Jerry Nine

Sometimes it’s just hard for me to be good.

My older sister said, “I think we need another bull as we have 44 cows in one pasture with two bulls and the one bull is limping.” I said, “Well, your husband limps some isn’t he still aggressive?” She said, “Maybe so and maybe not.” It sounded like she was saying none of your business.

I said, “OK, we better replace the bull but how about your husband?” She said, “I better keep him I just had knee surgery and he’s a pretty good caretaker.”

I thought that our slaughter cows and bulls would get cheaper these past two weeks but if anything, they are a little higher. Normally September through October and sometimes November there are so many cows show up that the packers can’t get them all processed. But this is definitely a different year with the drought we just went through and so many extra cows and bulls were processed.

And it wasn’t one or two states. There were many that were dry. A few cows we sold weighed 1,350 pounds and brought $122 which figures $1,647. That’s an excellent time to sell that older cow and buy a younger one.

The preacher on Sunday I thought had a lot of good comments. He said the enemy wants you to give up. He said you better be talking to your kids, grandkids and friends about Jesus. He said you can be assured that someone is and it may not be Jesus.

Let’s all pray every day for America. I like being free.

At church Sunday, one friend of mine who is Black walked by me and I said, “How are you doing?” He said, “I am short, Black and beautiful.” I said, “Well, two out of three ain’t bad.”

A friend said his grandson called the other day to wish him happy birthday. He said, “How old are you grandpa?” He said, “I am 80 today.” His grandson said, “Wow, Grandpa, did you start at 1?”

Another older woman said her granddaughter said, “Grandma, do you know how you and God are alike?” Grandma, just smiled from ear to ear and said, “No. How do you think we are alike?” She said, “You are both old.” One grandkid said, “My grandpa is so funny. He said any time he bends over he acts like that sound came from the dog and the dog is not even close.”
