News outlets are reporting part of the roof at Dodge City’s Cargill beef plant collapsed after heavy rain June 30.
The National Weather Service office in Dodge City reported 4.01 inches of rain from early morning hours of June 30 until later in the afternoon the same day.
Cargill reports no one was injured, and canceled production July 1 and 2. Structural engineers are reportedly working to stabilize the roof. News reports said the company is implementing plans to safely resume operations as soon as possible, and all processed beef in its coolers and distribution center was unharmed.
According to county property records, parts of the plant were built in 1980 and 1984, with additions in the late 1990s and in 2014.
More rain is in the forecast July 2 and 3.
