A label update for Linex® herbicide will allow its use in alfalfa for the 2026 growing season, adding another option for weed management during dormant periods and between cuttings.

The expanded label provides additional flexibility for growers, crop advisers and applicators as they plan seasonal weed control programs. Linex, a long-established herbicide, is now positioned as an alternative where crop rotation considerations or herbicide resistance are factors.

Dr. Earl Creech, owner of Creech Farms and a weed scientist, said the product offers a different mode of action that may be useful in fields with known resistance issues or where rotational flexibility is needed.

“It’s a new option for alfalfa growers for dealing with weed control, and anytime we can get something new, that’s a big deal,” Creech said.

Company officials said the product also offers a shorter crop rotation interval compared to some current standards, which could give producers more flexibility in changing market conditions.

Dr. Jonathan Akins, senior vice president of Tessenderlo Kerley Crop Protection, said the timing options allow Linex to fit into existing management programs.

Depending on application timing, Linex can be used to control a range of broadleaf and grass weeds. During dormancy, it targets species such as shepherd’s purse, mustards, lambsquarters and pigweed, along with other winter annuals. Applications between cuttings provide control of lambsquarters, pigweed, nightshade and purslane, and suppression of barnyardgrass and foxtail.

The updated label reflects the continued use of established herbicides within integrated weed management programs, particularly as growers seek additional tools to address resistance and adapt to changing production conditions.
