Kansas delegation seeks disaster declaration
U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran led his Kansas delegation colleagues Sen. Roger Marshall, and U.S. Reps. Tracey Mann, Derek Schmidt, Sharice Davids, and Ron Estes, in urging President Donald Trump to make a disaster declaration for the state following the severe windstorms, flooding and tornadoes that occurred June 3 to 7.
Gov. Laura Kelly formally submitted the request for federal support on Aug. 6. Affected counties reported 5 to 12 inches of rain during the storm. Other disasters included straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding.
Following a survey of the damage to the impacted counties including Barber, Butler, Chase, Cowley, Coffey, Franklin, Greenwood, Harper, Lyon, Morris, and Osage, it is estimated Kansas will qualify for more than $7.5 million in public assistance funding.
