Deere expands 8-series lineup with redesigned tractor models

John Deere announced the launch of six new 8R and 8RX tractor models, expanding its 8-series lineup with higher horsepower options and updated technology.

The new models include horsepower options of 440, 490 and 540, extending the range available in the 8-series. The company said the redesign focuses on improved performance, maneuverability and versatility, building on more than 30 years of development in the tractor line.

Michael Porter, marketing manager for large tractors at Moline, Illinois-based John Deere, said the updates were driven by customer input and designed to support a range of field operations, including planting, harvesting and tillage.

The tractors are equipped with precision agriculture technology, including the G5Plus display and features such as AutoTrac Turn Automation, AutoTrac Implement Guidance and AutoPath. The models are also autonomy-ready and can be equipped with JDLink Boost connectivity for data capture and machine monitoring.

The new 8R and 8RX tractors use the JD14 engine and include updates to the company’s Intelligent Power Management system. An optional peak power feature provides an additional 40 horsepower across a broader engine speed range, with total output reaching up to 634 horsepower for certain applications.

An optional engine brake is designed to assist with slowing the tractor under load, particularly during transport, while reducing wear on the primary braking system.

Hydraulic updates include increased pump capacity and separate steering and braking pumps. The tractors also feature an enhanced Independent Link Suspension system on the front axle and a transport speed capability of up to 60 kph. Rear hitch lift capacity is rated at 24,000 pounds, with options for front hitch and front PTO to support additional implements.

The models are designed with a tighter turning radius and include Reactive Command Steering, which automatically returns the steering wheel to center and allows operators to adjust steering sensitivity.

Operator features include an Electric Variable Transmission system that enables electric power offboarding for implements such as planters. Updated transmission controls, including CommandX, CommandX Plus and CommandX Pro, provide customizable operation.

Additional cab features include push-button start with PIN access, updated throttle controls, a convenience display for cab settings, wireless phone charging and adjustable armrests.

Serviceability updates include ground-level access to key maintenance points and extended hydraulic oil service intervals from 1,500 to 2,000 hours.

John Deere said the new models are intended to improve productivity and efficiency for producers managing large-scale operations.
