Current and aspiring cowboy poets have an opportunity to write, recite and compete for prizes at the annual Kansas Cowboy Poetry Contest. Entries for the 2026 contest are now open.

As in past years, there will be two regional contests at which poets can perform their original cowboy poems in person. Those who place in the top three at regionals can advance to the finals.

Regional contests will be conducted as follows: 6 p.m. May 15, Hays Public Library, 1205 Main Street, Hays; and 7 p.m. June 6, Cowboy Lodge, 234 Broadway Street, Cottonwood Falls. Contestants can enter to perform at either location or at both.

All ages are welcome. Those interested in competing can enter online at https://cowboypoetrycontest.com.
