Kansas Wheat and K-State Research and Extension will host two free Wheat Rx educational programs Aug. 12 in Hays and Aug. 13 in Wichita, helping producers prepare for the upcoming winter wheat season. The partnership between Kansas Wheat and K-State Research and Extension provides educational programs and resources focused on improving hard red winter wheat production.
“Wheat Rx is about helping producers make informed decisions every step of the way,” Aaron Harries, vice president of research and operations for Kansas Wheat, said. “A successful harvest is the culmination of the choices producers make throughout the growing season, from selecting area-appropriate varieties to fertilization programs to disease and pest management decisions.”
The programs includes an overview of a new National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant project designed to enroll more Kansas wheat acres in conservation programs. Other topics presented include wheat production and profitability, precision agriculture strategies and wheat disease management.
In addition to the educational seminars, Wheat Rx includes Extension publications and other educational resources covering key management areas of hard red winter wheat production. The publications feature research funded in part through the Kansas Wheat Commission’s two-cent wheat assessment and provide practical recommendations for producers.
Certified Crop Advisor continuing education credits will be available throughout the programs, including eligible sessions in Soil & Water, Crop Production, Nutrient Management, Pest Management and 1A
Both events are free to attend and include coffee, donuts and lunch, although registration is encouraged. The Hays program will be held at the LB Event Center, while the Wichita program will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Airport Wichita. The Wichita event also will be available by livestream for those who register.
