Hay trade remains steady

In Nebraska, alfalfa sold mostly steady, instances $10 higher on the western side of the state. Grass hay, ground and delivered products and dehydrated pellets sold steady, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oct. 26. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.

Eastern/central—Premium alfalfa, large rounds, $115-$125; good, large rounds, $90-$100. Premium grass hay, large rounds, $100, small squares, $160-$170; good, large rounds, $85-$90; fair, large rounds, $65-$75. Brome, in large rounds, $90-$100/bale. New crop cornstalk bales, $52.50 and soybean stubble, $47.50. Dehydrated alfalfa pellets, 17% protein, $230-$240.

Platte Valley—Good alfalfa, rounds, $100-$110, some at $125 heading to Kansas. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $130-$135. Ground and delivered alfalfa-cornstalk mix, $125-$130. Ground and delivered cornstalks, $85-$95. New crop cornstalks, in large rounds, $75 delivered. Dehydrated pellets, 17% protein, $215-$220.

In South Dakota, East River and West River areas, all classes of hay steady to firm. Good to very good demand for high testing hay suitable for use by dairies, supplies of this quality of hay are very tight.

In Missouri, hay movement remains slow. The supply of hay light to moderate. Hay prices steady to weak. Hay demand is light to moderate.
