Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Stockyards, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, reported receipts of 1,096 head selling on March 26, compared to 1,785 head a week ago and 1,402 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers under 400 pounds were selling $11 to $20 lower, over 400 pounds were selling $2 to $10 lower, but mostly $7 lower. Fleshy calves were selling with an average $10 discount. Slaughter cows were selling $1 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were selling $1 higher. Value added denotes cattle that have been weaned at least 45 days, castrated and administered two sets of pre-conditioning vaccines. The supply included 635 feeder calves, 269 feeder yearlings, 80 replacement cows, 85 slaughter cows, 26 slaughter bulls and 1% replacement bulls. The feeder supply included 55% steers, 36% heifers and 9% bulls. Nearly 37% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
