McAlester livestock auction report
The McAlester Union Livestock Auction, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 3,025 head Oct. 2, compared to 1,850 head a week ago and 2,100 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves under 600 pounds were selling steady, over 600 pounds were trading $3 to $6 higher. Demand was very good. Quality was average through mostly attractive. Heifer calves under 400 pounds were selling $8 to $9 higher, over 400 pounds were selling $2 to $3 higher. The supply included 20% over 600 pounds with 44% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling $1 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were selling $1 lower. A total of 350 cows and bulls sold with 50% going to packers.
