Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,816 head selling on May 17, compared to 1,627 head a week ago and 2,264 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to week ago, steer calves under 600 pounds were selling mostly steady, a few thin packages on offer were selling $2 higher. Heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling $3 to $5 lower. There were not enough 600 to 700 pound feeder steers and heifers a week ago for a market test but a lower undertone was noted. Feeder steers and heifers over 700 pounds were selling $2 to $4 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $3 to $4 lower. Trade and demand was moderate. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 825-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 11%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 89%. The feeder supply included 53% steers and 47% heifers. Nearly 62% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
