Springfield cattle market report
The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Missouri, reported receipts of 2,065 head on May 9, compared to 1,940 head last week and 2,875 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, the steer calves were steady to $5 higher, the heifer calves were steady and there were not enough yearlings for a good price test. Holsteins compared to two weeks ago and were under 850 pounds were selling $2 to $5 lower on a limited test and those 870 to 900 pounds were selling $2 to $3 higher. The demand was moderate to good and the supply was moderate. The feeder cattle supply included 36% steers, 14% was dairy steers, 41% was heifers and 9% was bulls. The feeder cattle supply weighing over 600 pounds was 30%.
