West Plains Regional cattle sales report
The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Missouri, reported receipts of 3,429 head selling on Oct. 2, compared to 3,744 head a week ago and 4,414 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves were selling $3 to $6 higher with spots selling $10 higher. Heifer calves were trading uneven from $3 lower to $3 higher with most of the gain on calves weighing over 500 pounds. Yearlings were trading $5 higher in an adequate test of the market. Demand was moderate early and improved throughout the day on a moderate supply. Unweaned, bawling calves had a hard time finding a new home as wide temperature swings, during “National Sick Calf Month,” have already been seen. The feeder cattle supply included 51% steers, 41% heifers and 8% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 28%.
