Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction report
The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 12,123 head selling on June 1, compared to 5,698 head May 18 and 11,779 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to the May 18 sale, feeder steers and heifers were selling steady with instances of $5 higher in a limited test. There was good to very good demand for all classes of cattle. The large offering of feeders included back grounded yearlings as well as fall born calves, some straight off the cow, while other fall calves were long time weaned. It was a very active market as buyers had a large selection of very attractive cattle to choose from, packages and part loads to multiple loads of one owner cattle. Flesh condition ranged from thin fleshed to moderate plus. The offering included 84% feeders over 600 pounds, 59% steers and 41% heifers.
