Amarillo Livestock Auction report

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 806 head selling Dec. 17, compared to 628 head Dec. 3 and 929 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to the Dec. 3 sale, feeder steers and heifers were selling steady to firm on a limited test. Trade was fairly active on moderate to good demand. Slaughter cows and bulls were not well tested; however, a higher undertone was noted. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 4%, 1% replacements and 95% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 37% steers and bulls, and 63% heifers. Nearly 44% of the run weighed over 600 pounds. Amarillo livestock will be closed the next two weeks for the holidays. The next sale will be Jan. 7, 2019.
