Hub City Livestock Auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 6,079 head selling on Nov. 7, compared to 2,800 head a week ago and 4,368 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves 500 to 600 pounds were selling mostly steady, 601 to 650 pounds were selling $2 to $3 lower. Higher undertones were noted on yearling steers. Heifer calves 450 to 500 pounds were selling $5 to $9 lower, 501 to 600 pounds were selling steady to $1 higher. There was good demand for yearlings, most of which came from two strings of steers. Like a week ago, most of the yearling offering was out of feed yards. Flesh on yearlings was mostly moderate plus overall. There was moderate to good demand for large calf offering. Very good demand for heifers suitable for replacement. Steers made up 64% of the feeder supply, heifers 36%, 60% over 600 pounds.
