Winter Livestock auction report

The Winter Livestock auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 2,061 head July 11, compared to 1,747 head two weeks ago and 1,330 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.

Compared to two weeks ago, the feeder steers weighing under 700 pounds were selling $4 to $6 higher and the steers over 800 pounds were selling $1 to $3 higher. The heifers were mostly selling $1 to $3 higher on comparable weights. There were not enough steer and heifer calves for a market test. The trade and demand was active. The slaughter cows and bulls were selling $2 to $4 higher. The feeder supply was 46% steers and 54% was heifers with 88% weighing 600 pounds and over.
