Ft. Pierre livestock auction report
The Ft. Pierre livestock auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 4,350 head selling on July 27, compared to 1,772 head a week ago and 5,941 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Due to the last reported feeder cattle auction being held a month ago, there are no recent price comparisons available. A higher undertone was noted. There was very good demand for all weights of steers and heifers. The market was very active this week for this offering of yearlings. There were many eager buyers on the seats trying to get cattle bought to refill their empty pens. Many full loads of yearling steers and heifers in light flesh were selling this week, including one string of 2,500 steers in very light flesh and an empty weighing condition. The offering included 90% over 600 pounds with 82% steers, and 18% heifers.
