Tulia Livestock Auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction, Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 486 head selling on Aug. 23, compared to 1,384 head a week ago and 917 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Tulia, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers were selling steady to firm on a light test. Trade activity was light on moderate to good demand. There was typical light receipts for the summer runs and some areas have been fortunate enough to receive rain that benefitted grazing pastures. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady to instances $2 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 7%, less than 1% replacements, and 93% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 59% steers and bulls, 41% heifers. Approximately 46% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 354 lbs., 190.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 164.50 to 174.50; few 596 lbs., 152.50; lot 667 lb. calves 142.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 147.00 to 149.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 478 lbs., 160.00; 600 to 650 lb. calves 137.00 to 140.00; lot 717 lbs., 153.00; lot 841 lbs., 141.00. Medium and large frame 2, lot 383 lbs., 141.00; few 521 lbs., 135.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 265 lbs., 182.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 173.00 to 174.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 149.00 to 165.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 138.00 to 146.00, few 568 lbs., fleshy 115.00; lot 709 lbs., full 128.50. Bred heifers: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, individual 930 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred 710.00 per head.
