When you’re in your latter workin’ years,
and your go-power won’t quite go,
there’s still a way to hang in there.
The secret’s workin’ slow.
If you’ve got to make a livin’,
and still avoid untimely death,
well, friend make sure your efforts
don’t outrun your breath.
If you’re not the man you used to be,
there’s no reason to complain.
Just readjust your velocity
to a pace you can maintain.
Myself, I do about as much
as I did when young and strong,
but there seems to be a down side,
’cause my days get awful long.
