Corn harvest advances (Oklahoma)

Precipitation levels were above their normal averages for the week ending Sept. 23, with exception of the northeast district, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Southern Plains Regional Field Office, Oklahoma. The statewide average rainfall for the week was 2.96 inches with the southeast district recording the highest at 6.10 inches. Statewide, temperatures averaged in the low 70’s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short. There were 4.9 days suitable for fieldwork.

Winter wheat planted reached 27 percent, up 12 points from the previous year and up 5 points from normal. Corn dented reached 97 percent, up 2 points from the previous year. Corn mature reached 72 percent, unchanged from the previous year but down 9 points from normal. Corn harvested reached 35 percent, up 5 points from the previous year. Sorghum coloring reached 85 percent, down 1 point from the previous year and down 6 points from normal. Sorghum mature reached 48 percent, down 4 points from the previous year. Sorghum harvested reached 20 percent, down 6 point from the previous year. Soybeans setting pods reached 94 percent, up 6 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 24 percent, unchanged from the previous year but up 4 points from normal. Soybeans harvested reached 1 percent, unchanged from the previous year. Peanuts mature reached 44 percent, down 1 point from the previous year. Cotton bolls opening reached 56 percent, up 5 points from the previous year and up 1 point from normal. Cotton harvested reached 1 percent, unchanged from the previous year but up 1 point from normal.
