Most areas report above-average temperatures

Wyoming experienced above normal temperatures for the week ending July 15, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Mountain Regional Field Office, Wyoming. Twenty-nine of the 31 reporting stations reported above average temperatures for the week with the high temperature of 102 degrees recorded at Sheridan and a low of 38 degrees at Yellowstone. Below normal moisture was reported at 18 of the 31 reporting stations. Five reporting stations had no precipitation. Newcastle reported the most moisture with 2.53 inches. A reporter from north central Wyoming noted that most of the area was doing well but the southern part of the area is getting very dry. A reporter from western Wyoming indicated that the weather has been dry with warm days and cool nights. A reporter from Southwestern Wyoming stated that the weather has been mostly hot and windy but they have received some moisture in the mountains and benches. A reporter from south central Wyoming indicated that the hot, dry winds have reduced yields even where irrigation water has been available.
