Soybean harvest reaches halfway point (Missouri)

Temperatures last week averaged 50.5 degrees, 3.7 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.28 inches statewide, 0.43 inches below normal. There were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Oct. 28, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Heartland Regional Field Office, Missouri. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 8 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 4 percent very short, 20 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Corn harvested progressed to 90 percent this week. Soybeans dropping leaves progressed to 96 percent. Soybeans harvested reached 51 percent this week, which is 9 percentage points behind last year. Soybean condition was rated 6 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 38 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Cotton harvested reached 87 percent this week, 9 percentage points ahead of last year. Rice harvested progressed to 97 percent this week. Sorghum harvested progressed to 75 percent this week. Winter wheat planted for 2019 progressed to 49 percent this week, with 31 percent emerged.
