Conditions allow fieldwork to progress
Conditions were warming up and allowing fieldwork to progress in Montana for the week ending May 6, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Mountain Regional Field Office, Montana. The high temperature for the state was recorded in Hardin at 86 degrees. The low temperature for the week was recorded in West Yellowstone at 22 degrees. Precipitation was reported at 78 weather stations. The highest recorded precipitation for the week was in Terry with 1.21 inches of moisture. Topsoil moisture conditions for the state were 80 percent adequate to surplus, below last year’s 88 percent. Subsoil moisture conditions were 70 percent adequate to surplus which is below last year’s 92 percent. Winter wheat was reported with 95 percent of the crop breaking dormancy. Winter wheat condition was rated as 54 percent good to excellent compared to 69 percent this time last year.
