Read Proverbs 3:5-8

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, on the Lord.—Psalm 27:14 (KJV)

A heavy rain began to fall while I was on my way to work. I took cover and watched the other people moving hurriedly down the street, trying unsuccessfully to keep dry.

While I waited, I thought about how we are often like those people rushing through the rain. Impatient and desiring quick solutions, we ask God for help but often do not wait for an answer. We continue in the rain and feel frustrated about getting wet.

Soon the rain stopped, and I was able to go calmly on my way. In the same spirit, may we learn to wait in faith for the rain to pass. Putting our trust in God sometimes means waiting when we would rather take action. But waiting for God’s guidance and help allows us to take shelter until the path ahead is clear.

Prayer: Even when we are in a hurry, beloved Father, give us the patience to wait for your answer. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Thought for the day: If I wait, God will answer.
