Fort Pierre Livestock Auction report
The Fort Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 3,750 head selling on Jan. 26, compared to 4,330 head a week ago and 5,170 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, steers 500 to 800 pounds were generally selling $2 to $4 higher, with instances of $6 to $8 higher prices on the lighter weight cattle. The 800 to 850 pound steers were selling $3 to $5 higher. No comparison made on the heavier steer cattle due to a limited comparison. No comparisons were made on heifer cattle under 600 pounds due to limited test. Heifers over 600 pounds were selling steady to $2 higher. Good demand for this offering of feeder cattle with many long strings, full loads and packages. Buyers were able to put multiple loads of one owner cattle together. Flesh condition ranged from light fleshed grass fed cattle to moderate plus back grounded cattle. Cattle marked value added were enrolled in the NHTC program.
