Fort Pierre Livestock Auction report
Fort Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 2,100 head selling on March 23, compared to 5,049 head selling on March 9, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to the March 9 sale, feeder steers under 800 pounds were selling with steady to lower undertones, over 800 pounds were selling $10 to $12 lower. Feeder heifers were very narrowly compared with steady to lower undertones. Demand was very uneven, yet there was good demand for cattle to run on grass and for replacement heifers, only light demand for cattle bound for feed yards. Flesh condition ran from light to moderate plus on a few consignments. Most cattle were in that light to moderate range. Plenty of buyers in the seats actively bidding throughout the sale but the market was less active this week due to the current weakness in the futures market. There were some cancellations due to the very muddy conditions in the trade area making it difficult to get cattle loaded and shipped to town. The offering included 95% over 600 pounds, 50% steers and 50% heifers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 12 head, 522 to 533 lbs., 162.50 to 165.00 (163.53). Large frame 1, 33 head, 1036 lbs., 115.00.
