St. Onge Newell sheep sales report
The St. Onge Newell Sheep Yards, St. Onge, South Dakota, reported receipts of 2,492 head July 12, compared to 1,114 head June 14 and 6,247 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Since our last reported sale was June 14, there are no recent comparisons available. However a lower undertone was noted. There was a nice offering of very attractive feeder lambs and most were offered in large bunches. Overall, flesh condition was very light and attractive but demand was only moderate. Feeder lambs made up 95% of the offering, the balance was slaughter ewes and bucks.
Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 40 head, 179 lbs., 43.00. Good 3 to 4, 11 head, 218 lbs., 36.00. Utility 1 to 2, 154 to 156 lbs., 44.00. Cull 1, 16 head, 127 lbs., 31.00.
Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 38 head, 58 lbs., 184.00; 73 head, 65 lbs., 185.00; 75 to 79 lbs., 157.00 to 170.00 (160.48); 80 to 89 lbs., 151.00 to 160.00 (156.61); 90 to 99 lbs., 143.00 to 154.00 (150.33); 10 head, 94 lbs., 124.00 short docks; 105 head, 102 lbs., 144.00; 44 head, 110 lbs., 132.00 to 134.00 (133.77). Medium frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 79 lbs., 146.00; 84 to 85 lbs., 131.00 to 134.00 (131.83); 5 head, 83 lbs., 125.00 buck lambs.
