Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction report

The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 7,117 head selling on Nov. 16, compared to 9,750 head a week ago and 5,465 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves were selling steady to $5 higher, heifer calves were selling steady to $3 higher. Yearling steers and heifers were not well tested, therefore no comparison could be made. There was a large offering of calves, most with pre-conditioned shots and straight off the cow. Moderate demand for offering of yearlings and calves. Many long strings of calves, with plenty of part loads and packages to make loads out of. Flesh condition was attractive as most cattle were straight off grass. The offering was 33% over 600 pounds with 68% steers and 32% heifers.
