Hay trade remains slow with increased demand

Hay Markets

Compared to the last report, demand increased but trade activity remained slow, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Sept. 26.

Grinding alfalfa price fell again for most regions while grass hay was mostly steady. Producers have been busy in the fields with harvest, and if not harvesting, they are baling various forages and crop residues. According to USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service, half of the pasture and rangeland in Kansas is in poor to very poor condition. Prices are based on averages and given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
