The National Pork Board and the popular food brand, Nestle, are teaming up to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable agriculture on pork operations with the Advancing U.S. Pork Sustainability grant program. Nestle is expected to provide $10 million toward the grants, which will be awarded to pork producers in the project.
“It starts with an on-farm report that provides producers with their environmental footprint, and then provides them with a report that depicts their opportunities around reductions,” said NPB chief sustainability officer Jamie Burr. “And then provides grant dollars for them to implement practices that reduce their outcomes.”
Grant programs such as this benefit the producer—often compensating them for climate smart practices they already employ—and strength the relationships between the supply chain and consumers a like.
