Editor’s note: On Jan. 30, Waynoka FFA Chapter Reporter Chanan Wyatt conducted a follow-up interview with Kellen Allison, a former FFA member and Oklahoma State Star Farmer Award recipient in 2019 during his senior year. The interview focused on how FFA played a key role in shaping Allison’s career, leadership skills, and personal life.

During the interview, Allison reflected on the many opportunities FFA provided him with, including leadership development, hands-on agricultural experience, and the confidence to pursue his goals beyond high school. Encouraged by his ag teacher Will Anderson, Allison began the strenuous application process for Oklahoma State Star Farmer.

This process consisted of compiling data and records detailing his operation prior to completing a series of interviews. When asked about the goals and plans he submitted as part of his State Star Farmer application, Allison shared that he had started a small cow-calf and stocker operation while in high school.

He credited much of that early success to the support and influence of his family, who helped guide him and encouraged his passion for agriculture. Looking back, Allison noted how those early goals closely aligned with where he is today, showing how FFA helped him turn a vision into reality.

Today, Allison is a successful business owner, operating a feed yard in Waynoka, Oklahoma. In addition to his current operation, he has previously managed multiple other agricultural ventures. Alongside his professional success, Allison is also a devoted family man. He and his wife, Tallis, are raising their baby, Kutter, while continuing to grow their business and agricultural legacy.

When asked about his biggest takeaway from being involved in FFA, Allison emphasized the value of connections. He explained that many of the relationships he built through FFA are still important to him today, noting that he still speaks with peers he met through the organization at the age of 15. Allison shared that these connections have been extremely beneficial to his business and continue to play a major role in his success.

When asked, “What piece of advice would you give to a current FFA member?” Allison responded, “Find something you’re passionate about and really dig into it. Get excited about it and work towards it.”

Allison’s journey demonstrates how involvement in FFA can extend far beyond high school, providing lifelong skills, relationships, and opportunities. His story serves as an inspiration to current members, showing that dedication, passion, and hard work can lead to success both personally and professionally.
